The ABB FIA Formula E World Championship returns to the historic surrounds of Diriyah and the historic desert surroundings of the UNESCO World Heritage site for the fourth season in-a-row, as Saudi Arabia gets set to kick off another season with a spectacular double header in the dark.

DUEL IN DIRIYAH

Nyck de Vries strode to victory in Formula E’s first ever night race, and the series’ opening race as an FIA World Championship, as the Mercedes-EQ driver completed a clean sweep; topping every session in Round 1 on his way to a maiden Formula E win.

Sam Bird took victory at his debut event with Jaguar Racing in Round 2 of the season-opening Diriyah double header, heading home Robin Frijns (Envision Virgin Racing) with DS TECHEETAH’s Antonio Felix da Costa a net third.

First race winner de Vries would ultimately go on to raise Formula E’s first-ever FIA World Championship crown, will history repeat itself and the victor in Saudi Arabia come out on top yet again?

DIRIYAH CIRCUIT

With 21 twists and turns, the 2.495km Diriyah Circuit skirts around the historic town walls of the UNESCO World Heritage site in the desert of Saudi Arabia.

The drivers face a challenging lap right from the finish line as a technical first sector leads into the snaking Bobsleigh Run at Turn 6, a series of fast changes in quick succession.

The layout is a true test of strategy with a long energy-zapping straight to close out the lap. For extra measure, the race is run in the dark with an illumination of LEDs lining the circuit, expect sparks to fly when all the 22 drivers go wheel-to-wheel around the Diriyah Circuit.

Lighting the streets of Diriyah

Last season Saudi Arabia hosted Formula E's first night race. The track was illuminated with low consumption LED technology powered by fully renewable energy - using up to fifty per cent compared to non-LED technologies. The remaining energy needed to power the floodlighting is fully renewable and comes from high performing low-carbon certified hydrogenated vegetable oil made from sustainable materials.
